The time it takes to boil a whole chicken will depend on the weight of the chicken. A general rule of thumb is to boil the chicken for 15-18 minutes per pound. For example, a 3-pound chicken would take 45-54 minutes to boil. However, for safety, it is recommended to use a food thermometer to ensure the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165 °F.

Once the internal temperature of the chicken has reached 165 °F, you should remove it from the pot and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

It's important to note that boiling a whole chicken is not the most common way to cook a chicken, it's generally used to make chicken broth or stock, or to prepare the chicken for other recipes such as soups, salads, sandwiches and casseroles. Other methods such as baking, roasting or grilling will give a more moist and flavorful result.
